1. What speeds does the Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB deliver?
The drive is rated for up to 7,450 MB/s sequential read, 6,900 MB/s sequential write, and 1.4 M / 1.55 M random IOPS (read/write).

2. Is it compatible with a PlayStation 5, and do I need a heatsink?
Yes. It meets Sony’s Gen 4×4 ≥5,500 MB/s requirement and is flagged “PS5 compatible.” Fit the 990 Pro with Heatsink model or add any 22 × 80 mm heatsink before installation.

3. Will it work in a PCIe 5.0 motherboard?
Absolutely. The 990 Pro is a PCIe 4.0×4 NVMe 2.0 SSD that runs at full speed in Gen 4 slots and automatically down-negotiates (with no performance penalty) in Gen 5 or Gen 3 slots.

4. Does the 990 Pro run hot—should I use a heatsink on PC?
Samsung’s nickel-plated controller, heat-spreader label and Dynamic Thermal Guard keep temps in check, but a small M.2 heatsink is wise for long 4 K edits, heavy writes or compact cases.

5. What are the endurance rating and warranty?
The 2 TB model is rated for 1,200 TBW (terabytes written) and comes with a 5-year limited warranty—whichever is reached first.

6. Were the early SMART wear-rate issues fixed?
Yes. Firmware versions 1B2QJXD7 and later ( e.g., 4B2QJXD7 ) stop the abnormal wear reporting. Update via the Samsung Magician utility if your drive shipped with older firmware.

7. Does it support hardware encryption for BitLocker?
It does—AES-256, TCG Opal 2.0 and IEEE 1667 (eDrive) are built in; enable them in BIOS and Samsung Magician, then switch BitLocker to “hardware encryption.”

8. Is there on-board DRAM, and will it fit thin laptops?

9. Why does Windows show only ~1.81 TiB of space?
Operating systems report capacity in binary (TiB), so a “2 TB” decimal drive formats to ≈ 1.81 TiB usable, which is normal.
