FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

TP-Link EX520v (AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 VoIP Router) — FAQ

What is the TP-Link EX520v?
The TP-Link EX520v is an AX3000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 VoIP router built for fast FTTH/ethernet broadband, with full gigabit ports, EasyMesh support, and a phone (FXS) port for VoIP calling.
How fast is it (AX3000 speeds)?
AX3000 is the combined (theoretical) Wi-Fi class: up to 2402 Mbps on 5GHz + 574 Mbps on 2.4GHz. Real-world speed depends on your device, distance, walls, and interference.
How many Ethernet ports does it have?
It has 1× Gigabit WAN port + 3× Gigabit LAN ports for wired devices.
Does it have a phone (VoIP) port?
Yes — it includes 1× FXS port (RJ11) for VoIP calling, and supports multiple VoIP accounts plus call features like caller ID, call waiting, call holding, and call forwarding
Is this a modem router?
No — the EX520v is a router for ethernet WAN (typical FTTH/ONT setups). If you need VDSL/ADSL, you need a DSL model (e.g., VX series), not the EX520v.
Can I use it with full fibre (FTTP)?
Yes. Connect your fibre ONT/modem to the Gigabit WAN port, then set the WAN type your ISP requires (e.g., DHCP, PPPoE).
Does it support EasyMesh?
Yes — the datasheet lists EasyMesh support so you can expand coverage with compatible EasyMesh devices (not the same system as Deco).
Router mode vs Bridge mode — can I put it in bridge?
The datasheet lists WAN types including Bridge alongside Dynamic/Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP. Some ISP-supplied firmware builds may hide options, so if you can’t find bridge mode, it may be firmware/ISP provisioning rather than a fault.
Does it support VPN?
Yes — it lists VPN server support for PPTP, OpenVPN, and IPSec
Does it have USB sharing?
Yes — it has 1× USB 2.0 port and supports USB storage sharing including FTP server and media server features.
Is it secure (WPA3, guest Wi-Fi)?
It supports WPA/WPA2/WPA3 (Personal) and also lists WPA/WPA2 Enterprise. It also supports guest networks / multi-SSID.
What app do I use to set it up?
You can manage it via Web GUI or the Aginet app
What is “remote management” (TR-069 / TR-369 / TAUC) and should I worry?
EX520v supports ISP/remote management protocols like TR-069, TR-181, TR-369 plus cloud management via TAUC. This is mainly for ISP provisioning/support (Aginet ecosystem).
VoIP troubleshooting: calls drop or one-way audio — what should I try?
A common fix is disabling SIP ALG if your VoIP provider recommends it. TP-Link shows the menu path as Advanced → NAT Forwarding → ALG to turn off SIP ALG.
Why is my 5GHz speed not close to 2400 Mbps?
That number is a maximum link rate. Real speed depends on Wi-Fi signal strength, channel width, device capability (1×1 vs 2×2), congestion, and your broadband speed. For best results, place the router high/central and use Ethernet for stationary devices.
